After the 7 October 2023 attack, we are witnessing brutal violence between Israel and Palestine. The situation in the Gaza Strip is so critical that the victims, both adults and children, number in the thousands. The most important thing now is to provide humanitarian aid to the people who, because of the closed borders, have been trapped in the middle of the fighting without food and without water.
We have allocated the first EUR 20 000 from our humanitarian fund of the Friends Club for the purchase and import of basic raw materials.
Gaza Strip residents lack the basic minimum to survive
The situation in Gaza is unacceptable. As in any military conflict, it is the ordinary people caught in the middle of the fighting who suffer the most. It is currently impossible to leave Gaza, the border crossings are closed, and even humanitarian aid is flowing in a limited mode. 1.7 million people have no way of accessing the basic necessities of life, such as drinking water, food, hygiene supplies and medicines.
34% of the population is exposed to a food crisis, 42% to food insecurity and 17% to famine.
It is very difficult to provide humanitarian assistance in this area. Convoys of trucks can only be sent by vetted organisations and in limited numbers. Finding a reliable partner who can guarantee that aid reaches civilians directly at risk has been difficult. After weeks of difficult preparations, we succeeded and agreed to provide 20,000 euros worth of aid from the humanitarian fund of the Friends Club.
Thanks to the cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, we procured assistance in the form of:
- baby food
- canned food
- medicines
- hygiene products
Assistance remains essential. Through our Egyptian partner organisation, we can provide additional humanitarian aid packages, which will include hygiene items and non-perishable foodstuffs.
We are currently arranging additional supplies of basic necessities for the most vulnerable. We are negotiating with the state forces as well as other partner organisations. The situation is complicated by closed border crossings. Border throughput with Egypt has dropped from an average of 500 trucks per day to 50 trucks, with a minimum of 300 trucks per day needed to provide basic necessities.
Ensuring transparent and targeted aid remains a priority for us.
Helping suffering people always comes first.
