The Commissioner and the Commissioner managed to visit the Integration Centre in Košice in Slovakia
In June 2022, the Integration Centre in Košice was created by the merger of 10 organisations to help people. People in Peril is one of four organisations that provide counselling up to five times a week.
The Commissioner has been busy with his busy schedule
The main point of the visit of Commissioner Schmidt and Commissioner for Cohesion Elisa Ferreira was a meeting with the founders of the project, which has been effectively helping people fleeing the war in Ukraine since 2020. Since the early days, the DEDO Foundation in the East has been helping to place individuals and families fleeing Russian aggression in safe places. It is helping them to find a home and making sure that these people also find work so that they can live a full life in our country.
The intermediate stop was the Integration Centre in Košice
The Commissioner and his colleagues did not miss the Integration Centre in Košice, which has helped around 350 people with accommodation and other basic needs since its launch. The group was accompanied by the Minister of Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation, Veronika Remišová. During a joint discussion, they talked about the functioning of the Integration Centre and its impact on society in Eastern Slovakia.
Providing aid indefinitely and beyond
The vision of the Integration Centre is to raise sufficient funds to operate and provide assistance to people continuously after the end of the war conflict. This topic was also discussed by politicians. The Commissioner for Cohesion, Elisa Ferreira, pleasantly surprised with her involvement in the issue – asking various questions and inquiring about the future of the Integration Centre.
