On 26 August 2026, Nepal was hit by devastating flash floods and landslides in the Rasuwa district in the north of the country, near the border with Tibet. A huge mass of water, mud and debris swept through the Bhote Koshi River valley, destroying homes, bridges, roads and other infrastructure within minutes. Initial findings indicate that the disaster was triggered by a glacial collapse, sending a powerful surge of water and debris rushing down into the valley.
Dozens of people have lost their lives, and hundreds more are still missing. Rescue operations are ongoing, but conditions remain extremely challenging in many areas. Damaged roads, disrupted communications and the risk of further flooding are making it difficult to reach affected communities.
People who have lost their homes or been left without basic necessities now urgently need practical, immediate support.
Funds raised through the appeal will be used to provide the most urgent assistance based on the current needs of affected communities, including:
- food
- safe drinking water
- hygiene supplies
- materials for emergency shelters
- other essential humanitarian assistance
