Disaster in the form of floods hit not only Europe, but also Slovakia. On the night of 14 to 15 September, many witnessed the floodwaters hitting their homes. Together, let us help the victims with repairs and reconstruction.
Slovakia was hit by extreme rain and wind
On Friday 13.9.2024 the forecast of extreme weather, which affected for several days a large part of Europe, including Slovakia, came true. This caused landslides, power cuts and flooding of houses. The damage caused by the floods is of various kinds, some permanent, others still reversible.
Western Slovakia was the hardest hit. After initial monitoring and coordination with village mayors, our teams identified the most important needs – information, volunteers and material assistance. Dehumidifiers are needed almost everywhere, as flooded rooms need to be dried as soon as possible to prevent mould and contamination. However, these are very expensive and people are not normally able to obtain them. We have managed to procure them and distribute them these days to the villages of Borinka, Jablonové, Kuchyňa and Radošovce, for example. At the moment, we are working to repair as much of the damage as possible, which is still reversible, in other areas as well. However, it is necessary to work quickly and not waste time.
Most important is the actual financial assistance to specific households to repair their homes.
