Chechnya – food aid 2000

In the autumn of 1999, war broke out again in Chechnya (for the second time in a row), this time with the aim of suppressing the so-called terrorist groups present on the territory. In 2000, People in Peril launched a public collection to help Chechnya. In cooperation with People in Need, we sent a Czech-Slovak humanitarian convoy to the country, which brought 22.5 tonnes of flour, three tonnes of sugar, 193 kilograms of tea and medicines to the town of Alkhan-Yurt, which was 80 per cent destroyed.
