People in Peril launched a public SOS Iran collection to help victims of the Bam earthquake in December 2003. We used the proceeds from the SOS Iran collection to build a school in southern Bam in cooperation with our Czech partner, People in Need. The school, called “Asia Girls Guidance School”, is attended by 200 girls aged 11-13 years old, with a focus on getting a general education. The school was built in the traditional Iranian style of steel and brick, has two floors, six classrooms, laboratories, a library, a classroom and a principal’s office. It was also built on a foundation that should better withstand future earth tremors.
