Kosovo
The repair of the primary school in Glavicica, destroyed by the war in Kosovo in 1999, was the first humanitarian intervention by People in Peril. The village, which was 90% destroyed, had a population of 300-350 inhabitants and at the time of the start of the repairs about 30% of the inhabitants had not yet returned from neighbouring states where they had fled repression by Serbian forces. In October 1999, we sent a truck with humanitarian aid worth 140 000 SKK to Glavicica, which was the only non-governmental aid of this nature from the Slovak Republic to Kosovo. In the period 1999 – 2000, 751,000 SKK were invested for the purchase of materials and work on the reconstruction of the school from the funds received from the public collection HELP FOR KOSOVO, as well as from other Slovak humanitarian organisations.
