Lebanon
We have been operating in Lebanon for a long time. It is a country that is still recovering from the aftermath of the civil war that lasted until 1990, while providing shelter for three generations of Palestinian and other refugees and internally displaced people. We provided our first humanitarian assistance in Lebanon in 2006 and intensified our work after the outbreak of the war in Syria, which worsened the situation for displaced people and refugees in Lebanon.
In 2020, there was a devastating explosion at the port of Beirut that caused massive damage and left thousands homeless. This incident further exacerbated an already difficult situation in Lebanon, which has long been struggling with the effects of civil war, a refugee crisis and a deep economic recession. Our organisation immediately responded and began providing aid to the victims of this disaster. Working with local partners, we distributed essential aid in the form of food, hygiene supplies and temporary shelter materials to more than 4,000 residents.
In January 2019, the Norma snowstorm hit Lebanon, bringing extreme conditions to already vulnerable refugee communities and poor Lebanese. The storm damaged many makeshift shelters in refugee camps, particularly in the Arsal and Shatila areas. Our organization immediately provided emergency assistance in the form of heaters, fuel, tents, and infant formula for children. This aid was funded by contributions from our regular donors and enabled us to improve living conditions for hundreds of families facing cold temperatures and snowdrifts.
