A Russian drone destroyed our humanitarian vehicle. Help us continue delivering aid in Ukraine.

During a work trip to Ukraine in May, a Russian drone struck the accommodation where our team was staying. The attack destroyed one of the two vehicles we use to deliver humanitarian aid in Ukraine. It also destroyed essential safety equipment and humanitarian supplies stored inside the vehicle. To ensure we can continue our work without interruption, we have launched a fundraising campaign on Donio to replace the vehicle and purchase the critical safety equipment our team needs.

Without a reliable vehicle, humanitarian aid cannot reach those who need it

A vehicle is an essential part of our humanitarian work in Ukraine.

Our teams regularly travel across different parts of the country to deliver aid to people who have lost their homes, their sense of safety, or access to basic necessities. We use our vehicles not only to transport humanitarian assistance, but also to assess the needs of local communities, monitor ongoing projects, and prepare new activities directly in the field.

We have been working in Ukraine since 2014. We reconstruct school bomb shelters, repair damaged homes, support schools, assist people evacuated from frontline areas, and implement projects focused on education, psychosocial support, and helping young people access the labour market.

We lost one of our two vehicles in a drone attack

During a work trip on 20 May, a Russian drone struck the accommodation where our team was staying in the Chernihiv region. Thankfully, our colleagues escaped without injury. However, the explosion and the fire that followed completely destroyed one of the two vehicles we rely on for our humanitarian work in Ukraine.

The vehicle was carrying humanitarian aid destined for a collective centre in the Shostka district, as well as our team’s safety equipment and other essential gear needed for field operations. All of it was destroyed in the fire.

“For us, this means that one of the two vehicles we use in Ukraine has been destroyed, making it much more difficult to deliver humanitarian aid,” said Andrea Najvirtová, Director of People in Peril, in an interview with Denník N. In the interview, she also spoke about our humanitarian work in Ukraine.

The vehicle also carried equipment essential for our colleagues working in war-affected areas. Protective helmets, ballistic vests, and other safety gear used during humanitarian missions in Ukraine were all destroyed in the fire. This equipment helps our teams operate more safely in high-risk areas, enabling them to continue delivering aid even where the security situation remains unstable.

Help us get back on the road

Insurance does not cover damage caused by acts of war. That is why we have turned to the public and launched a fundraising campaign on Donio to replace our vehicle and purchase the safety equipment our team needs to continue delivering humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

The funds raised will be used to purchase:

  • an off-road vehicle suitable for humanitarian missions in challenging conditions,
  • a roof box for the safe transport of humanitarian supplies and equipment,
  • essential safety equipment, including protective helmets, ballistic vests, radios, and first aid kits,
  • field equipment needed for travel and work in remote areas, such as a gas stove, emergency thermal blankets, a water filtration system, and other essential supplies.

With your support, we can continue delivering life-saving assistance to people in Ukraine, despite the fact that the war has also affected our own humanitarian operations.
